I can’t have kids and that means…
Inquiring into the thoughts around infertility and involuntary childlessness

Four Thursdays: 21 January–11 February 2016
8–9.30 p.m. Central European Time
(11 a.m.–12.30 p.m. Pacific Time)

Facing the prospect of a life without kids of our own can feel unfair, unjust, or torturous. We may look at others and feel that by comparison we are missing out in one of the great joys of life. We have cherished images all our lives of what our kids will be like, and now those expectations are dashed.

In this four-week teleclass, we will be using the four questions and turnarounds of The Work of Byron Katie to look at the root cause of our suffering, which may open us up to a radical acceptance of infertility.

This class is open to those who are new to or experienced in The Work. For those new to The Work, please read Loving What Is by Byron Katie before our first class.

We will cover these topics:
Week One: What do they have that I don’t have?
Week Two: Who’s to Blame?
Week Three: Doctors/Medications/Treatments/Alternative practitioners
Week Four: Hell is Other People!

At least an hour of homework (partner work and individual work) will be assigned each week between sessions.

I have this amazing love affair with myself going on, because I realize what that Self is. There just cannot be another!
—Byron Katie

About Presenters

Brid N

Bríd Ní Chionaola, Certified Facilitator of The Work of Byron Katie.

The Work of Byron Katie kindly found me in 2006 when I was struggling with stressful circular thoughts after the death of my father, an infertility, and a cancer diagnosis. Uncomfortable feelings (eg. jealousy/lack of self esteem) sometimes arise for me around this issue as I work with children. These feelings are alarm bells guiding me back to my thoughts that something is missing, something is wrong, and others have better lives than me because they have kids. The Work shows me what to do with these thoughts so that they point me to my happiness. It is my heart’s desire to do and to share The Work.

Additional Information

From other Teleclasses&mdah; The Compulsive Mind—run by Bríd (with Joy Karim) on addiction:

The curriculum had a very good variety of exercises. Brilliant tools were given to use The Work in handling “stressful situations” in my life. The trainers were very easy, non-judgmental, non-pushy, confident, calm, supportive. I am not so afraid of my addictions. I feel ok with my addictions and less hopeless. I attack myself less. Also, I deepened into The Work. I got more confidence as a facilitator, more freedom to participate and share on the course. I realise after this course, that what I am hungry for is not a substance or experience, but a sense of connection, peace and love, that I can never get from a substance. At the root of it all I am addicted to improving on what is, my mind says: if I had something else/more I’d be happier. Thanks for a very insightful course.

I attended this teleclass as a not native English speaker and I learned that doing The Work in English is not only possible but helpful for me. Brid and Joy were patient and calm with me and let me find my words and sentences at my own pace. In the beginning I hoped that I would find the thoughts that are lying under my addiction at of class. And by giving us many helpful questions every week I found a lot of thoughts and I started to see these thoughts and my addiction with an understanding grace during this teleclass. Doing The Work with Bríd four out of the six weeks was a great gift for me. Being facilitated by an experienced CF and facilitating her was a wonderful experience, because Brid and Joy did the homework with us during the teleclass. The openness of them both made it easy for me to open up as well. Love,

I was really grateful for Brid and Joy's loving guidance during the Compulsive Mind teleclass this past April-May 2014. I found I learned a lot from both of them on how to fill out my worksheets properly, to gain the most advantage in doing My Work. I will be eternally grateful to both of them in sharing their knowledge with me
—Marcia, Australia (TCM 2014)

The Compulsive Mind was well thought out and presented. I saw the connection between my thoughts and my addictions. Doing The Work on my addictions has allowed me to be easier on myself. This is ongoing work. I will continue to use what I learned here. I am grateful to Joy and Brid for their openness, availability, and all the work they have done to make this a successful class.
